{"id":406,"date":"2019-01-06T15:59:07","date_gmt":"2019-01-06T15:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/?p=406"},"modified":"2021-02-27T14:41:13","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T14:41:13","slug":"pair-automation-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/pair-automation-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"PAIR Automation Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As you probably heard, the USPTO is changing the login procedure to Private PAIR and EFS-Web, replacing it with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/patent\/authentication-changes-efs-web-and-pair\">two-factor authentication<\/a> (PKI certificates will be disabled on February 19,\u00a0 2019).\u00a0 Certain background changes to Public PAIR login page also affected automation features in ClaimMaster.\u00a0 In response, all PAIR automation features have been redesigned in the latest release of\u00a0 ClaimMaster 2019\u00a0 to work with\u00a0 the new USPTO PAIR sites:\u00a0 These changes apply to all of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/patent-downloading-tools.html\">patent downloading tools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Private PAIR Automation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;ve modified our custom Internet Explorer (IE) widget to work with the USPTO&#8217;s new two-factor authentication login for Private PAIR.\u00a0 Because PKI certificates are no longer used, we will not be storing the PKI certificate location and password in ClaimMaster.\u00a0 Rather, we&#8217;ll always keep an instance of the custom IE widget open (unless you explicitly close it), so that once you login to Private PAIR, all of your subsequent PAIR requests will pass through the authenticated session within the open IE widget.\u00a0 This means that you will not have to relogin to Private PAIR for multiple operations, making the overall retrieval\u00a0process much faster.\u00a0 \u00a0As long as your IE widget remains open, even if your session times out due to inactivity, you likely won&#8217;t have to pass the two-factor authentication again.<\/p>\n<p>Below are the steps for using the new Private PAIR automation features in ClaimMaster:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong> When you launch a feature requiring the use of Private PAIR (e.g., filling out shells or family tree generator), ClaimMaster will open a custom IE widget that will prompt you to login to Private PAIR<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/ppair_login.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/ppair_login.png\" alt=\"PAIR automation login page 1\" width=\"610\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/ppair_login.png 742w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/ppair_login-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/ppair_login-298x300.png 298w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Enter your Private PAIR login information (username &amp; password) and then proceed to perform the now required two-factor authentication:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-425\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-1.png\" alt=\"PAIR automation login page 2\" width=\"610\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-1.png 742w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-1-300x142.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-426\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-2.png\" alt=\"Private PAIR login page 3\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-2.png 742w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/two-factor-step-2-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Once you log in to Private PAIR, the IE widget will continue to the regular operations:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/after_login.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/after_login.png\" alt=\"Private PAIR widget\" width=\"610\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/after_login.png 742w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/after_login-300x90.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Note that, if you&#8217;d like, you can minimize the widget while it is processing or after it completes its task by clicking on the minimize button at the top of the window (see red circle above).\u00a0 It&#8217;s not, however, recommended that you close it altogether because then you&#8217;ll need to re-login to Private PAIR and perform the 2-factor authentication process again.\u00a0 If you minimize the widget, you will see it at the bottom of the screen, from where you can always bring it up by clicking on it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/toolbar.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/toolbar.png\" alt=\"IE widget minimized\" width=\"610\" height=\"27\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/toolbar.png 734w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/toolbar-300x13.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition, you can see what&#8217;s happening in the IE widget browser by clicking on &#8220;Show browser window&#8221;.\u00a0 If you select &#8220;Always keep browser window open&#8221;, it will never be hidden from view (mostly useful for issue debugging purposes).\u00a0 \u00a0Once the widget completes its task, you can move it to a side or minimize it.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information about the two-factor authentication change, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/patent\/authentication-change-efs-web-and-pair\">USPTO&#8217;s FAQ page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Public PAIR Automation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>USPTO recently made back-end changes to the Public PAIR that are not fully compatible with our custom\u00a0IE automation widget.\u00a0 These changes do not affect Private PAIR.\u00a0 While we are investigating the problem, we&#8217;ve automated Public PAIR features using the standard Internet Explorer.\u00a0 As a result, with the exception of file downloading, all regular PAIR automation features for Public PAIR are still available in the updated ClaimMaster version.\u00a0 In this version, when accessing Public PAIR, ClaimMaster will start and automate an instance of the standard Internet Explorer.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Please note that to you&#8217;ll need to run Internet Explorer without Protected Mode to enable its automation, as explained in more detail in Section I\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/docs\/IEcompatibility.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During operation, IE window will open and you&#8217;ll be asked to pass CAPTCHA to access Public PAIR, just like in the previous version.
