Creating IDS citations groups makes it easy to check cross-cites between groups of related applications and generate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/IDS_June2024.pdf\">SB08a forms <\/a>for the uncited references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"schema-how-to wp-block-yoast-how-to-block\"><p class=\"schema-how-to-description\">To create an IDS citation group for a particular set of applications, perform the following steps: <br><\/p> <ol class=\"schema-how-to-steps\"><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\" id=\"how-to-step-1650220310711\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Launch the &#8220;Explore and Diff IDS References&#8221; tool<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">From ClaimMaster ribbon, click on the <strong>USPTO Office Actions, Shells, and Forms<\/strong> menu, then <strong>Explore and Diff IDS References<\/strong>:<br\/><br\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"352\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ids_citaiton_group_menu.png\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"ids citaiton group menu\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ids_citaiton_group_menu.png 352w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ids_citaiton_group_menu-300x269.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\" \/><br\/><br\/>Next, switch to the &#8220;<strong>Citation Groups<\/strong>&#8221; tab to access the tool for creating and organizing citation groups.<\/p> <\/li><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\" id=\"how-to-step-1732296855027\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Create a new citation group or edit the existing one<br\/><\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">In the &#8220;<strong>Citation Groups<\/strong>&#8221; tab, you can either edit existing IDS cross-cite groups or create new ones.  To edit an existing group, pick one of the previously set up groups from the citation group dropdown.  Otherwise, to create a new group, enter its name, description (optional), a list of the applications that belong to the group (also optional). Each entry should being on a new line.  Alternatively, switch to the <strong>Import citations<\/strong> tab where you can import citations into the group automatically.<br\/><br\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"565\" height=\"220\" src=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/import_citations.png\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/import_citations.png 565w, https:\/\/www.patentclaimmaster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/import_citations-300x117.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" \/><br\/><br\/>You can import citations from:<br\/><strong>* Files <\/strong>&#8211; files can be in PDF \u00a0(e.g., the originally filed SB08 forms), Word, or text formats. \u00a0<br\/><strong>*<\/strong> <strong>Directories <\/strong>&#8211; you can import from forms in the specified directories (IDS forms in one directory vs forms in another directory).\u00a0<br\/><strong>*<\/strong> <strong>Patents\/Pubs<\/strong> &#8211; specify patent or publication numbers and the tool will import prior art references from Google Patents\/Free Patents Online\/EPO.<br\/><strong>*<\/strong> <strong>Patent Families <\/strong>&#8211; specify patent or application numbers and the tool will import prior art references for entire families from Google Patents\/Free Patents Online\/EPO.<br\/><br\/>Once all the necessary citations have been added, click the &#8220;<strong>Save<\/strong>&#8221; button to save the citation group.  If you are editing an existing IDS cross-cite group, any of your changes will be stored for the given group name.  You can also click on &#8220;<strong>Delete group<\/strong>&#8221; button to remove the selected group from the database.<\/p> <\/li><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\" id=\"how-to-step-1732296929642\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\"> Compare references between citation groups or other documents<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">Once you have one or more IDS cross-cite groups configured, you can quickly pull up all references for that group and compare those references to citations in other groups, documents, or patent families.
