I recently started receiving "System Error &H80040111 (-2147221231)" message whenever Word is started

Solution

On January 12, 2016, Microsoft released security update MS16-004 to Microsoft Office.  Following this update, one of the standard Visual Basic components used by ClaimMaster (mscomctl.ocx) may become corrupted, which will cause you to see the following messages whenever Word attemps to load ClaimMaster add-in:



To resolve this problem, please try the following:

1)  Close Word or any other Office programs.

2)  Download and run a small fix utility, located here.  Make sure to run the utility as administrator, by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Run as Administrator"

3)  After executing the repair utility and without opening Word again, run a full repair of Microsoft Word.  For Office 2013 or 2016, we recommend doing Online Repair.

4)  Restart the computer.
