Configuring claim cloning shells

To edit claim cloning templates, perform the following steps inside the Patent Drafting Preferences window:

  1. Switch Template Type to "Claim Cloning" option:

  1. Select one of the configured claim cloning shell templates and then click on the Edit button in the lower right corner of the preferences window  (if you don't have any such templates configured or need to make a copy, create a new one using the Add or Duplicate buttons shown above):

  1. Edit the selected template settings, then click on Accept Edits to save:

    1. Specifies the name of the claim cloning template that is being edited.
    2. If checked, verbs in the nested limitations will be also conjugated.  A nested limitation is a limitation that includes other sub-limitations, such as :

"transmitting packets to a server, wherein the transmission comprises:

assembling packets using an assembly module; and

transmitting the assembled packets using a transmission module."

    1. This field specifies the template for converting each limitation of the specified independent claim to the cloned format.  Note that spacing & tabs used in the template between fields will be kept in cloned claims. The following replacement fields are supported:
      • [CLAIM#] - a placeholder for the claim # in the cloned claim. To be filled-in when the claim is generated in the claim cloning tool (based on the value specified in item 7).
      • [FUNCTION] - if used, specifies the function (e.g., "for transmitting", "for improving the process", etc.) to be used in the preamble of the cloned claim.  Will be automatically populated by ClaimMaster based on the original claim.
      • [DEVICENAME] - specifies the device name to be used in the cloned claim. To be filled-in when the claim is generated in the claim cloning tool (based on the value specified in item 8).
      • [LIM_CHANGED] - specifies limitation in the conjugated form that is optimized for insertion using natural-language processing techniques. Preferred for independent claims.
      • [LIM_UNCHANGED] - inserts limitation in the non-conjugated form (i.e., without changes, as it appears in the claim).  Preferred for dependent claims.
      • In addition, you can add a script section to this field, as explained in more detail here.
