Adding formatted text, objects, fields, and variables to templates

ClaimMaster provides you with an almost infinite way to customize template text using objects such as tables/images/formulas, text formatting (e.g., highlighting, bold, underline, strike though, etc.), text replacement fields, comments, and variables/drop down fields that prompt user for further input.

Getting Started

To insert objects, formatted text, and variables into your templates, right-click on the text field for the template that you are editing to bring up the menu with various options for importing and annotating text in the template field.

1. Importing text from the open Word document

This feature provides the simplest way to import large amount of formatted text (e.g., a description of a particular figure) into ClaimMaster template directly from the Specification.  To do so, select the desired text region in the open Word document and then pick the Insert selected document with annotations option from the right-click menu.

ClaimMaster will copy & paste the text of the selected Word region into the template field (at the location of the cursor), while also preserving various text annotations, such as comments, highlights, and font formatting.  Note that text annotations/formatting is preserved in the marked-up form within templates, as shown below.  However, this markup form is changed to regular Word formatting during insertion of the template into the document.

2. Importing objects from the open Word document

This is an extremely powerful feature that lets you add any selected Word section into the template (e.g., tables, images, smart art, formulas, or literally anything else include large text sections with formatting).  The only caveat is that once added to the template, the added object cannot be directly edited in the template text. Instead, when you review template text, you'll see a placeholder value for the object that specifies its name, such as {OBJECT:SNR formula 1}.

To add an arbitrary Word object to the template, select the desired region in the open Word document (the region can include any images, figures, formulas, tables, text, etc.) and then pick the Insert selection as object option from the right-click menu.  You'll be prompted to specify the object name and then you'll be able to reuse the same object in multiple templates by referring to with the same name. The object will be changed to the original Word selection upon insertion into the document.

3. Adding formatting to template text

To add formatting to any text in the template, simply select the text that you'd like to annotate in the template and then pick one of the annotation options (e.g., comments, bold, italic, etc.) from the right-click menu. If you are adding a comment, you'll be prompted to specify the text for the comment. Note that text annotations/formatting is preserved in the marked-up form within templates. However, this markup form is changed to regular Word formatting during insertion of the template into the document.

You can also use the same menu to remove all annotations from the text field.

4. Inserting variables into the template

You may encounter a situation when you want to resolve a particular text value in the template at the time of the text insertion into the document. ClaimMaster lets you specify variables and selection menus as part of the template. When the template text is added to the Word document, user will be prompted to specify values for the variables or pick a value from the pre-defined list of items.

You can also use the same menu to remove all variables/selection menus from the text field.

a. Variable fields

If you selected "Variable", you'll be prompted to specify the variable name and also an optional list of selection values to pick from at the time of insertion.

Then, during insertion of the text generated using this template, the user will be prompted to resolve all variables in the template, as shown below:

b. Selection menu fields

If you selected "Selection menu", you'll be prompted to specify the list of selection values to pick from at the time of insertion.

Then, after insertion of the text generated using this template, all selection fields in the inserted text will be highlighted and user would be able to resolve them directly in the document, as shown below:

5. Inserting text replacement fields

Some template sections will also allow you to right-click and insert available text replacement fields that will be auto-populated when ClaimMaster generates text based on the template.

The list of available replacement fields is specific to each type of template. Replacement fields for each template type are discussed in more detail here:
