Downloading Patent Publications Based on the U.S. Application Numbers

Sometimes all you have is an application number, but don’t know the corresponding publication number to get the PDF of the patent/application. We have a patent downloading tool for that. Specifically, ClaimMaster lets you quickly resolve one or more application numbers to corresponding patent publications in PDF format. Specifically, for a given list of application numbers, ClaimMaster will access either USPTO’s Patent Examiner Data System (“PEDS”) or Public/Private Patent Application Information Retrieval (PAIR) to check whether any publications for the specified applications exist (e.g., published application or patent) and will download PDFs for each publication that is available.

To use the publication data utility, perform the following steps:

  1. Launch the Publication Lookup Tool

From the ClaimMaster tab of the Word ribbon, click on the Downloading Tools menu, then select Lookup Publications Using Application No.:

  2. Enter the Application Number

In the window that comes up, specify one or more application numbers and click the Download Document button. ClaimMaster will then use USPTO’s Patent Examiner Data System (“PEDS”) or Public/Private Patent Application Information Retrieval (PAIR) to check whether any publications for the specified application number(s) exist (e.g., published application or patent) and if so, will download the files for you.

From there, you can open the corresponding file folder, open the PDF files, or print/email PDFs of the patent publications.
