Renumbering Part Numbers

ClaimMaster lets you quickly adjust a range of part numbers by a positive or negative increment, in case you need to insert new part numbers or add a new figure in between existing figures and describe the new figure in the specification. This is yet another one of many helpful patent drafting tools available in ClaimMaster.

Follow these steps to renumber parts in the specification:

  1. Launch Part Number Editing Tool

From the ClaimMaster tab, click on the Individual Tools menu, then select Check/Edit Part Numbers in Text:

This will start the parsing process during which ClaimMaster will go through the document identifying part names and numbers.

  2. Switch To Drafting View and Launch Part Renumbering Tool

In the window that shows up on the right side of the screen, switch to the Drafting View, then click on the Renumber #s button, which will bring up the Part Renumbering tool.

  3. Specify Renumbering Parameters.

In the Renumber Part Numbers window that shows up, you can enter the range of numbers you wish to change and the associated renumbering step (i.e., the numeric increase/decrease applied to each part number).

For example, if you have a sequence of parts numbered 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. till 100 and wish to insert another element between numbers 4 and 6, you can renumber numbers 4-100 with a step of 2, which would change them to 6, 8, and so on.  This will free number 4, which you can now associate with a new part. Moreover, if you enter a negative step value, part numbers in the range will be decremented by the specified range.

  4. Complete part renumbering

When you finish specifying the renumbering part number range and increment/decrement step, click on the Renumber button. ClaimMaster will then renumber all of the parts within the specified range using Track changes, so that you can see the edits.
