ClaimMaster lets you extensively customize various patent drafting templates and settings. In fact, ClaimMaster provides you with an almost infinite way to customize template text using objects such as tables/images/formulas, text formatting (e.g., highlighting, bold, underline, strike though, etc.), text replacement fields, comments, and variables/drop down fields that prompt user for further input.

Take a look at the templates setup explanation below:

To add new or change settings for the existing patent drafting templates, follow these steps:

  1. Open Patent Drafting Settings menu

From the ClaimMaster tab, click on the Patent Drafting Tools menuthen click on Patent Drafting Settings … :

  2. Select the Desired Settings File (Optional)

By default, all patent drafting templates will be stored in patent_drafting_templates.xml file located in the local ClaimMaster Settings directory. However, you can have ClaimMaster load template settings from any other location, such as from a shared drive or directory, so that multiple users can have access to the same set of templates. In addition, you can use different settings files for different clients (e.g., X_client_templates.xml, Y_client_templates.xml, etc.) – this way each of your client-specific templates and settings would be stored in a single file and can be reloaded on demand. Alternatively, you can store all of your client-specific templates in a single settings file, as long as you provide them different names.

select patent drafting settings file location

Note: if you specify a non-default file location, remember to click on Reload after you specify the path to the file to load the templates into ClaimMaster.

  3. Select Patent Drafting Template to Edit

First, specify the patent drafting template type – you can pick from figure, flowchart, claim cloning, Summary, Abstract, and the overall application shell document templates. Next, click on the existing template you’d like to edit. You can also add, delete, or duplicate existing templates using the 3 buttons below the template type selection screen. In particular, the “duplicate” button lets you quickly generate a new template based on the existing template.

Notably, ClaimMaster lets you quickly import text from existing Word documents into patent drafting templates and also provides you with the ability to customize template text using objects such as tables/images/formulas, text formatting (e.g., highlighting, bold, underline, strike though, etc.), text replacement fields, comments, and variables/drop down fields that prompt user for further input. To bring up the text editing menu, right-click on the text fields in the template, then proceed to add add various annotations or variables to the template, as explained in more detail here.
